Lies, Damned Lies, and Web Hits

Exhibit A: Three forms of tracking web clicks into my blog from MXNA for a page, specifically my last post about Trac and ColdFusion.

Visiting traffic according to SQL, StatTraq, and MXNA

Raw SQL against the logs says 195 hits. StatTraq says 198 hits. MXNA says 40 click-throughs. I’m almost curious what Google Analytics will say tomorrow.

(I had been thinking it was some sort of redirect or HEAD vs. GET kind of thing that was causing multiple hits from one click, but it doesn’t appear so. There are multiple hits from the same IP, but there are also 150 unique IPs. The mind it boggles, and the boggles, they do nothing.)
