Over the past 3 months since my last post explaining how I just don’t get Flex, I’ve tried a few more apps. Each one has lived for a day or two, pretty and slick and gradienty, then died a malnourished death as I recoded the entire thing in straight HTML+AJAX.
Nope, I still don’t get it. Maybe I’m just too old-school.
And then yesterday I see the announcement about using AJAX Data Services to tie into FDS and all of the magical stuff that happens there. Sounds great, right?
But if you read the fine print, you see that all it does is instantiate a Flash object that does all of the heavy lifting. Huzzah. Not quite the direction I was going for.
I’ll stick with YUI, I think. I started using JSON instead of XML on my last project and may never go back. It’s so amazingly simple. And seeing HTTP responses that are literally less than a kilobyte … that’s just awesome.
