Follow-up: It may not be the future yet, but it’s not as bleak as it had been

Last month, I posted about how grumpy it made me that I bought an eBook and then couldn’t read it because of DRM. It turns out that there’s a happy ending after all.

I got an email from Whitney Gutgsell in the Publicity department of Pearson Education, the people that do the work for Sams publishing. They had found that some links in the original eBook didn’t work right, and were sending out a fixed version to people that bought the book.

Unfortunately, I am a jerk. I replied with a rather nasty email about how it was nice of them to have fixed the book, but that I still couldn’t read it due to all of the DRM.

Within 12 minutes, I had a reply from Marie McKinley, Marketing Manager at Pearson. She apologized for my problems and, despite my complete jerkitude, attached a DRM-free version of the eBook.

So there you go. Things worked out in the end.
