I ran twice yesterday, each for about 4.5 mi. First in the morning:
Then again in the evening:
I think they show very dramatically how much more control you can have over your speed on the treadmill (duh). But at the same time, I think that may be a double-edged sword. That is, I find myself accelerating too quickly on the treadmill, which wears me out faster and limits my total distance. Whereas, when I’m running outside I have a much better sense of if I’m sprinting or if I’m in the run for the long-haul.
I know that many more serious runners can tell you exactly how fast they are running by how their heart is beating or what their stride feels like … but I’m not there yet.
