After an extended txt conversation with my dad, from whom I got the running gene, I thought it might behoove me to codify my running goals, as well as revisit how far I’ve come.
Goal | 2008/Previous | 2009/Current | 2010/Goal |
---|---|---|---|
Runs/Week | 2-3 | 3-4 | 4-5 |
Miles/Week | 15-20 | 20-30 | 40+ |
Base Run (mi) | 4-5 | 6-7 | 7-9 |
Long Run (mi) | 6-13 | 8-20 | 13-30 |
Base Pace (min/mi) | ~9:40 | 9:40-9:00 | 8:35 |
Long Pace (min/mi) | 10:20 | 10:20-10:00 | 9:40 |
Specifically, by EOY 2010 I want to:
-
Have a 25-minute 5K time.
-
Have an 80-minute 15K time.
-
Have run a half-marathon distance, 13.1 miles, in under 2 hours.
-
Have run a marathon distance, 26.2 miles, in 4:15:00.
-
Have run 1600+ miles for the year, or 133 mi/mon.
Implications? That 1600 miles is going to take roughly 245 hours to cover, burning 208,000 kcal or about 60 pounds. My standard Chipotle meal costs a penny per kcal, so I’m going to spend more than $2000 just for the pre-run calories. Add in 4 to 6 pairs of shoes, 3 or 4 pairs of SuperFeet, countless gels and beans and bloks and drinks, and probably a dozen $10 pairs of running socks. Conservative budget: $4000 for 2010.
On the upside, I should get through between one and two dozen audiobooks just while running. Maybe I should start listening to foreign language instruction? The recitation would certainly make me think about my breathing …
